EUROPEAN UNION BLUE CARD

As is well known, the Federal Republic of Germany prioritizes a skilled workforce. Individuals who have completed a university degree within or outside Germany can apply for the European Union ("EU") Blue Card to obtain the right to work and reside (residence permit) in Germany. In this article, we would like to briefly inform our readers about the EU Blue Card.

1. How to Apply for the EU Blue Card?

First, you enter the Federal Republic of Germany with a visa obtained from the German Consulate General in your place of residence in Turkey. Then, using your Blue Card, you apply to the relevant foreigners' office in Germany where you plan to reside or work.

2. What are the Requirements for Applying for the EU Blue Card?

• Applicants must have completed a university degree at a university in Germany or abroad. • Additionally, you must earn at least €4,234 per month in a skilled workforce and a sector in Germany where you plan to work. This wage can be reduced to €3,302 per month in sectors with a shortage of workers.

• If the wage is below the minimum wage, the relevant local Employment Agency must approve entitlement to a Blue Card.

• If registration with a professional chamber is required, or if the profession requires approval from the chamber, approval from the relevant chamber must also be obtained.

3. Status of Spouses and Children in Case of Obtaining an EU Blue Card

If an EU Blue Card is obtained, the spouse and children are also eligible for a residence permit in Germany. Therefore, the spouse is not required to take a German language exam.

4. How Long is the EU Blue Card Validity?

The EU Blue Card is initially issued for four years. The duration of the Blue Card depends on the employment contract signed with the employer in Germany. The residence and work permit with the Blue Card is issued for the duration of the employment contract and for a maximum of four years. Additionally, individuals can apply for a permanent residence and work permit two or three years after receiving the EU Blue Card.

Considering the above, qualified workers and university graduates will be able to apply for the EU Blue Card if they find work opportunities in Germany. The use of the Blue Card offers individuals a very practical solution for work and residence permits.
